As the form manufacturer in this year’s motocross title chase, Yamaha will look to convert its success to an even bigger and brighter stage as the first round of the new Australasian Supercross Championship gets underway in Western Australia next weekend. The Perth Motorplex will host the first of seven rounds, with both classes to contest practice and qualifying ahead of a traditional 20-lap battle to the checkered flag.
The break between seasons has been a busy period for the factory Pro Open and Pro Lite outfits, with crew and riders working towards tackling a raft of challenging new tracks in new and exciting venues. Pro Open Motocross champion Jay Marmont and the fast-finishing Cheyne Boyd will head up Yamaha’s campaign for the seven round series, and have spent a productive off-season preparing for the new challenge. With organisers promising significantly larger and more difficult track layouts, both riders have taken the opportunity to step up their training routines.
The duo will pilot twin 2009 Yamaha YZ450F racers, and are pleased with the progress the team has made during the final stages of pre-season testing. Team Principal Craig Dack said both riders were looking forward to the challenge of a new Supercross season.
“We completed our testing yesterday – preparations for next weekend are going really well,” said Dack. “Jay and Cheyne will both race the ‘09 YZ450F which has already proved itself as a fantastic bike.” “As a team we’re well prepared and very motivated following one of our best motocross seasons ever.”
