The American Motorcycle Association has levied fines of $25000 against motocross riders Jason Lawrence and Josh Hill. Lawrence and Hill’s off-track activities were seen as “unacceptable behavior detrimental to the sport” at round 3 of the AMA motocross championship at Freestone county raceway on the June 6-7 weekend. The $25000 fine is suspended and will only become due if the riders participate in further behavior that is dangerous or detrimental to the sport.
Lawrence and Hill are kids with no supervision and are able to run crazy. But they are in a professional sport which requires them to have the maturity level of an adult. What they do on their time is their business, but when they are at a National, they are on their employer’s time, and thus should not be acting like crazed lunatics.
Jason Lawrence and Josh Hill spent the two nights before the main event on Sunday getting drunk, driving around close to campers and spectators in a dangerous manner and ended up rolling a rental car.
Josh Hill had this to say about this past weekend events, “I regret everything that happened off the track at the Freestone National. I embarrassed my family, myself and Yamaha.
I hope I can turn this whole situation into a positive and look forward to the future”.
The lack of commitment to the sport they are a part of showed up in their comparably poor performance on Sunday. Yamaha’s Race Team has already implemented short term actions and is creating a long term plan to discourage these types of incidents in the future.
