Fort Lytton Motocross track closing

It seems that the motocross track at Fort Lytton in Brisbane will be closed unless last minute discussions overturn the current decision to close the track. The motocross track will remain open for today and tomorrow but after that the future is uncertain. Alternate locations for the track are being considered but no definite decisions have been made. I managed to get over to Lytton yesterday for what may be my final ride at the track. It’s a shame because if rumors become reality and the tracks at Tivoli and Reedy Creek are closed due to housing developments the closest motocross tracks to Brisbane will be at least 2 hours drive from Brisbane. Surely Brisbane city council has an obligation to provide a regulated area for the growing number of riders taking part in this legitimate recreational activity.

I have heard Stanmore has had it’s lease renewed by the local council for 5 more years. So at least there will be one track within 30min of Brisbane CBD.

Hey Darren, Stanmore MX club is race orientated but there nothing stopping him turning up to practice days as long he’s not riding a chinese import as these are not approved by Motorcycling Australia and Stanmore is an MA affiliated club. This Sunday (14/11/2009) is a race day so the track will be closed on Saturday for a working bee to prepare the track. They used to have additional contact numbers on the club info line 0407 632 262 but they don’t seem to have them at the moment. You may use the feedback form at the club website or one of the email contacts from the contact page at http://www.stanmoremx.com.au
