Preparation has started for the 2008 motocross nationals this week for the upcoming season opener at Glen Helen on May 25th. Last years series champion Grant Langston was taking a spectators view nursing an injury to his collar bone. Langston also had problems with his vision during the supercross series and is expected to miss at least two rounds of this years motocross championship.
Australian Michael Byrne has returned from a knee injury he sustained late last year and joins David Vuillemin on an RMZ450. The long awaited return of James “Bubba” Stewart will come to pass when Bubba competes in the opening round. “I haven’t raced in a couple of months,” said Stewart. “So the first couple of races are going to be a little different. I feel better than I felt in a long time. My knee is healed and I know my endurance is there. I can’t wait to be on the gate at Glen Helen, by the race I’ll have been on the bike three weeks and right now everything is going good.” Bubba’s team mate Timmy Ferry is also ready and should be a strong contender alongside James in the series with some strong rides towards the end of this years supercross series.
Also on a suzuki of in the lites class is Ryan Dungey who was very aggressive in practice. Other lites class riders who stood out were Ryan Villipoto, Austin Stroupe, Trey Canard and Jake Weimer. Villopoto and Stroupe will be joined on the Monster Energy, Pro Circuit, Kawasaki team by Branden Jesseman and Australian Brett Metcalfe
