2008 AMA motocross lites - Round 1 - Glen Helen

Unlike the open class, the lites class a great bunch of talented riders which could walk away with the 2008 AMA motocross lites championship. Round 1 at Glen Helen was packed with action with the top five riders within one or two seconds for both motos.
The Yamaha rider Jason Lawrence took the hole shot in the opening moto and held first place for the entire race. Ryan Villipoto got a bad start and was placed way back in about 10th place going into turn one. Austin Stroupe and Brett Metcalfe had a strong battle for second place.
In the second moto Ryan Dungey got the holeshot with Villipoto, Metcalfe and Stroup close behind. Lawrence got an ordinary start and settled in at fifth place for the majority of the race. Before long Kawasaki rider Ryan Villipoto took the lead from Dungey on his Suzuki, Metcalfe and Stoupe soon followed suit on their KX250F’s. Stroupe and Metcalfe had another battle with Stroupe coming out on top. Stroupe was close to Villipoto when he slid and crashed at the bottom of Mt Saint Helen, he recovered quickly though and held 2nd position for the remainder of the moto.
